Gift Wrapping Tips!

Wrapping Christmas presents is a unique kind of joy. Each year, I love finding new creative ways to wrap my gifts and I’m always on the hunt to find inspiration to make them look extra special. Lucky for me (and you!), I’ve got my amazing best friend and Executive assistant, Dawny, who is the ultimate perfectionist when it comes to wrapping presents. Honestly, watching her wrap is like witnessing a Christmas miracle – every edge is sharp, every bow is flawless, and the results are so stunning you almost don’t want to open the presents!

So, with Dawn’s expert guidance, I’m sharing her absolute fave tips to help you make your gifts look as good as what’s inside. Whether you’re wrapping makeup sets, bottles, odd-shaped homeware, or just trying to master the perfect bow, these ideas will have your gifts looking aaaamazing in no time.

Bows/Tags:

The Perfect Bow

Let’s start with the showstopper: the bow. Dawn swears by this video tutorial for tying the perfect bow that’s easy to follow and works beautifully with all kinds of ribbon, from velvet to metallic. Bows are everywhere this year. Why not try making a couple to put on your Christmas tree too?

Don’t forget about the name tags! Instead of a standard tag, try these adorable gingerbread houses instead. You can also take these to the next level by adding Mini décor pieces like dried oranges or tiny wreaths made out of rosemary.

Wrapping Tips:

Bottles

If you’ve been here for a while, you know Champagne is my drink. I love gifting it (and being gifted it!) but wrapping bottles? Annoying! Fear not, check out this step-by-step guide here for creating a polished look, whether you’re using festive paper or a lovely fabric.

You think you’re a perfectionist? Well, you haven’t met my Dawny. One of her biggest pet peeves when wrapping is visible tape. For a sleek, professional finish, she uses double-sided tape or follows this amazing seamless Japanese wrapping technique. This is also perfect if, like me, you can never find your tape!

For those awkwardly shaped items (think a stapler in the shape of a greyhound or a 90s troll doll the size of a newborn baby), this video has you covered. It offers clever tips to keep things tidy without driving you mad.

The art of Furoshiki is a Japanese technique using fabric. Not only does it look amazing, but it’s reusable too! Here’s a great how-to. Top tip is that you could buy a friend a new book whilst wrapping it in a fabulous vintage scarf. The dream?!

GO GREEN

Sustainable Paper:

This tip requires no demonstration and it’s something I’ve been doing for years. Forget the wrapping paper and save your newspapers in the build up to Christmas. Go eco-friendly and allow your recipients to fully recycle. I love decorating mine with drawings, glitter or even a bit of recyclable string.

Bring In Nature:

Why not take your gift to the next level by adding in natural elements such as eucalyptus, cinnamon sticks, or even pinecones. Get foraging.

Ok, don’t tell her but I’ll admit it, Dawny makes wrapping look effortless. But with these tips, we can all step up our game. Wrapping gifts is more than just covering them up; it’s about showing your love through the details, and with a bit of practice, you’ll nail it.

So grab your scissors and tape, and channel your inner Dawny! If you try any of these techniques, don’t forget to tag me in your photos—we can’t wait to see what you create.

Love,

Lisa xx
